The following wiki pages represent efforts to better understand approaches for teaching writing at the elementary, middle, and secondary levels, as well as what the approaches at these levels have in common. Each page includes the scenario prompting your work together!

Step I -- Teaching Writing IN Grade Levels -- Class 5: Your initial group work should be added to each of the first applicable wiki pages below! Your group may find it helpful to create a Google Doc first before posting to the wiki. You will want add to your wiki page without overwriting your other group member's content. This should be completed to share and discuss in Class 6. Keep in mind that you can add perspectives from the writing workshop videos posted on the wiki, as well as insights from the in-common Atwell and/or Freeman readings as well.

    • HS Group B - Deb, Shasha, Shuhui
    • HS Group C - Margo, Lindsey, Yue

Step II -- Teaching Writing ACROSS Grade Levels -- for Class 6: In class, you will collaborate with your jigsaw group [see below] via a google doc that represents the intersection of the texts above plus some additional reading assigned over the next few weeks. Your Google Doc and, later your jigsaw wiki page below will feature your expert group's "compiled" (Hicks, p. 44) ideas about teaching writing across grade levels addressing specific questions. Please build on your jigsaw group's virtual discussion and our class discussion to contribute ideas, questions, and answers to the prompts on the Google Doc!

Directions and Responsibilities:

Now that you've highlighted your grade level chapter in step 1 above, we'll be breaking into jigsaw groups featuring members from each of the three groups above (minus some elementary grade representatives). Each of the expert group members should contribute what you feel are the most salient parts of your grade/ability-level focused text drawing upon the ideas you developed in your initial group. As you and your jigsaw groups collaborate, consider and compose answers to the questions on your Google Doc and then post these to your wiki page below. Since we are short on elementary folks, Groups 2-4 should reference Nicole's Processing Interactive Writing wiki page above for insights.
